Vance says Ukraine conflict has been 'hardest' to solve

Washington: US Vice President JD Vance has described the war in Ukraine as the ‘hardest war in the world to solve,’ as a significant diplomatic effort led by the United States to end the conflict has hit a stalemate. Speaking on Wednesday. Vance acknowledged that the peace initiative is currently deadlocked over the critical issue of territorial control.

The ‘peace through strength’ framework, a cornerstone of the current administration's foreign policy, has faced resistance as both Kyiv and Moscow remain far apart on the status of Russian-occupied lands. While Washington has pushed for a resolution to halt the mounting human and economic costs, Vance noted that the ‘fundamental disagreement’ over borders remains the primary obstacle to a ceasefire.

He emphasised that the administration is seeking a ‘realistic’ path forward, but admitted that the complexities of the front lines make a quick diplomatic breakthrough unlikely.

The Vice President's remarks signal a sobering assessment of the situation as the conflict continues to strain global resources. Despite the current impasse, Vance stated that the US remains committed to bringing both sides to the negotiating table, while cautioning that any lasting peace would require navigating ‘deeply entrenched’ positions that have so far proven resistant to international mediation.
