Vatican City: Pope Leo XIV has hailed the two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran as a ‘sign of real hope’ for global stability. Speaking from the Vatican following the announcement of the truce, the Pontiff expressed profound relief, urging both nations to transform this temporary pause into a permanent peace agreement.
The Pope’s endorsement follows his recent, sharp condemnation of military rhetoric that threatened civilian infrastructure, which he labeled a grave moral failure. He emphasized that the ‘unjust’ nature of the conflict has not only claimed lives but triggered a global energy and economic crisis that disproportionately affects the poor.
As the diplomatic focus shifts to the upcoming negotiations in Islamabad, Pope Leo has called for a universal day of prayer on April 11, reinforcing his plea for world leaders to choose the path of dialogue over continued escalation.
