Qatar Condemns Iranian Attack on Ras Laffan Industrial City
The Qatar has strongly condemned what it described as a “blatant” Iranian attack targeting Ras Laffan Industrial City, which resulted in fires and caused significant damage to the facility.
In an official statement, the Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs labeled the incident a dangerous escalation, calling it a clear violation of national sovereignty and a direct threat to both national and regional security.
The ministry emphasized that despite Qatar’s consistent policy of distancing itself from the ongoing conflict and avoiding escalation, Iran continues to target Qatar and neighboring countries in what it described as an irresponsible approach that undermines regional stability and threatens international peace.
Qatar reiterated that it has repeatedly called for all parties to refrain from targeting civilian and energy facilities, including within the territory of Iran, in order to protect regional resources and maintain global security. However, it noted that continued escalation risks drawing uninvolved nations deeper into the conflict.
The ministry further stated that the attack constitutes a violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, urging the council to take decisive action to uphold international peace and deter such violations.
Additionally, Qatar affirmed that it reserves the right to respond in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, emphasizing its commitment to taking all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and the safety of its citizens and residents.
