Dubai: Flights are gradually resuming at Dubai International Airport after a drone-related incident sparked a fuel tank fire near the airport, briefly disrupting operations early Monday.
Airport operator Dubai Airports said services to and from the airport are restarting to selected destinations following a temporary suspension implemented as a precautionary measure. Passengers have been advised to check with their airlines for the latest updates.
The disruption began after a drone incursion triggered a fire in a nearby fuel tank, sending large flames into the air before emergency crews brought the blaze under control. The Dubai Media Office said the fire was successfully contained and no injuries were reported.
The incident forced authorities to briefly close the airport, leading to multiple flight cancellations, delays and diversions. Flights arriving from countries including the United Kingdom, Ireland, India and Pakistan were turned back or rerouted, according to flight tracking data from Flightradar24.
Some flights were diverted to Al Maktoum International Airport, located about 65 kilometers from the city’s main airport.
The airport, typically the world’s busiest hub for international travel, has already faced significant disruptions since the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran escalated in the region.
