Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei is “safe and sound” despite reports that he was injured during the ongoing conflict, according to Yousef Pezeshkian, the son of Iran’s president.

In a post on Telegram, Pezeshkian said he had contacted individuals with knowledge of the situation who confirmed that the new Iranian leader was safe.

Iranian state television earlier described the 56-year-old as a “wounded veteran of the Ramadan war” but did not provide details about the reported injury.

The remarks come amid growing speculation over Khamenei’s health and location after he assumed leadership following the death of his father, Ali Khamenei, three days ago.

According to a report by The New York Times, Khamenei may have been injured on the first day of attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran, citing unnamed Iranian and Israeli officials.
