China’s special envoy for Middle East affairs, Zhai Jun, has arrived in Saudi Arabia as part of Beijing’s diplomatic efforts to mediate the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel. During his visit, Zhai said China is ready to work closely with Riyadh to make “unremitting efforts to maintain peace and stability in the Gulf region.”
The Chinese envoy is holding discussions with Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and Jasem al-Budaiwi as part of the mediation initiative. Zhai described China as a “good friend and partner of Saudi Arabia” and stressed the importance of cooperation to prevent further escalation in the region.
During his meeting with Prince Faisal on Monday, Zhai expressed deep concern over the rising tensions across the Middle East. He emphasised that the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Gulf states must be respected amid the ongoing conflict.
The Chinese envoy also said attacks on innocent civilians and non-military targets should be strongly condemned. He highlighted the need for restraint and called on all parties involved to prioritise stability and regional security.
Zhai reiterated China’s position that military operations should stop immediately, urging all sides to de-escalate and pursue diplomatic solutions to resolve the crisis.
