6.4-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Near Russia’s Kamchatka Region

Istanbul: A powerful earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale struck the North Pacific Ocean off Russia’s Kamchatka region early Thursday, according to the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The quake occurred at 12:42 am local time at a depth of 52 kilometres, the agency said in a statement shared on Telegram.

The epicentre was located about 143 kilometres south of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the administrative centre of the Kamchatka region. Authorities have not reported any damage or casualties so far.
