Tehran: Tehran has formally called on the United Nations to condemn what it describes as “reckless” threats from the United States, following comments by former President Donald Trump concerning protests inside Iran.
In a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the Security Council presidency on Friday, Iran’s Ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani, criticized Trump’s remarks, in which he stated that the U.S. was “locked and loaded and ready to go.” The Iranian mission called the statements a violation of the UN Charter and international law.
The letter also reaffirmed Iran’s right to defend its sovereignty, warning that it would “exercise its rights in a decisive and proportionate manner” in response to any perceived threats. Tehran further held the United States fully accountable for any consequences arising from the comments or potential escalation.
The diplomatic move highlights the ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran and raises concerns about regional stability. The exchange underscores the challenges facing the UN Security Council and other international actors in managing volatile rhetoric while seeking peaceful solutions in the Middle East.
