Court to appoint lawyer for man serving five-year sentence in case involving two women
The First High Criminal Court of Appeal has adjourned until August 30 the appeal of a man sentenced to five years in prison for human trafficking involving two women.
The next hearing will be held to appoint a lawyer to represent the appellant.
According to case documents, the defendants formed a criminal group that allegedly trafficked the two women, restricted their freedom and forced them into prostitution for financial gain.
One woman travelled to Bahrain after being offered work as a fashion model, while the other was reportedly offered a salon job. Both allegedly discovered after arrival that they were expected to engage in prostitution.
The women were allegedly threatened and had their passports taken. One eventually contacted her family and a Bahraini man, who helped her leave the accommodation before she reported the case to the police.
Other defendants in the case received prison sentences ranging from one to 10 years, with all defendants ordered to be deported from Bahrain.
