Couple accused of assault over power bill
An Asian man and his wife are standing trial in Sharjah on charges of assaulting their landlady over a high electricity bill although they insist they are the victims.
The owner of their flat told court she visited the tenants to ask them to pay accumulating power bills of nearly Dh4,000, but they assaulted her and caused bruises to her body.
Newspapers said she presented a medical report to court showing has been beaten on the abdomen, back and face.
The defendants denied the charges, telling the court that the landlady assaulted them and that they have witnesses for the incident.
The papers said the judge on Monday adjourned hearings due to the absence of the plaintiff.
