Kerala District Steps Up Health Checks After Rare Disease Cases

Authorities in Kerala’s Malappuram district have stepped up health monitoring after one person died from rat fever (leptospirosis) in Peruvalloor and rare cases of amoebic meningoencephalitis were detected in Moonniyoor.

Health officials say both diseases, though uncommon, can be deadly if not treated quickly. To protect people working in high-risk areas like paddy fields and muddy waterbodies, the Peruvalloor health committee has decided to distribute doxycycline tablets as a preventive measure.

Local residents are being urged to stay alert, maintain good hygiene, and seek medical help immediately if they show symptoms such as fever, severe headache, or body pain.
