A quiet neighbourhood in Tissemsilt province, Algeria, has been left in shock after a horrific crime claimed the lives of a father and his teenage daughter.
Authorities said an 18-year-old woman and her father died from severe burns after their home was set on fire in the “500 Raoui Mohamed” area. The attack, according to investigators, was carried out by a young man in his 20s who had previously proposed marriage to the teenager. When she and her father refused, he allegedly vowed revenge, reportedly telling them: “I swear I will burn you.”
Just two days later, police said the suspect returned at night with three accomplices. Climbing onto the family’s roof, they allegedly poured gasoline on the house — even dousing the victims and the suspect himself — before setting it ablaze. The fire spread rapidly, leaving the family trapped inside.
Neighbours rushed to help, and the victims were taken to a hospital in Tissemsilt before being transferred to a specialist burns unit in Zeralda, near the capital Algiers. Despite efforts to save them, the father and daughter died shortly after. Another family member remains in critical condition under medical supervision.
The brutal attack has sparked outrage and grief across the community, with residents calling for justice and greater protection against such crimes.
