Palestinian Man Dies After Settler Attack on West Bank Village

A Palestinian man died after Israeli settlers set fire to homes and cars in the West Bank village of Silwad early Thursday, according to local authorities.
The Palestinian Health Ministry identified the victim as 40-year-old Khamis Abdel-Latif Ayad, who died from smoke inhalation after flames swept through homes and vehicles in the village at dawn.
Residents described a terrifying scene. Raafat Hussein Hamed, whose house was set on fire, said settlers arrived in a car, torched whatever they could, and then fled. He believes they came from a nearby “outpost,” a type of settlement considered illegal even under Israeli law.
Witnesses and the Palestinian Authority (PA) said that settlers also attacked nearby villages, setting fire to cars, homes, and farmland. The PA’s media office accused Israeli soldiers of accompanying the settlers and firing live bullets and tear gas at unarmed residents who tried to defend their community.
All Israeli settlements in the West Bank, which has been occupied since 1967, are considered illegal under international law.
