Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, widely known as Saudi Arabia’s “Sleeping Prince,” has passed away at the age of 36 after spending nearly 20 years in a coma.
The news was shared by his father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, in a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), quoting a verse from the Quran and expressing deep sorrow over the loss of his beloved son.
"With hearts full of faith in God's will and with great sadness, we mourn our dear son Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who passed away today," the message read.
Prince Al-Waleed fell into a coma in 2005 following a traumatic brain injury. Over the years, his story drew attention from across the Arab world, as he remained in a coma under constant care, surrounded by the love and devotion of his family—especially his father, who never gave up hope.
The news of his passing has sparked an outpouring of condolences on social media. Many described his journey as one of endurance, and a reminder of a family’s unwavering faith and strength.
“To God we belong and to Him we return. May Allah grant him mercy and peace,” read many of the messages shared online.
