Iran has denied Israeli claims that it violated a recently declared ceasefire, as fresh hostilities threaten to unravel efforts to halt the 12-day conflict.

Tensions flared early Tuesday after former US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between Iran and Israel had come into effect. Israel confirmed its agreement to the US-brokered proposal shortly after, and Iran indicated it would halt attacks if Israel did the same.

Despite this, the Israeli military reported intercepting missiles launched from Iran over northern Israel at 08:30 BST. Iran promptly denied any missile launches, while the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) vowed to “respond with force.”

Overnight, both nations exchanged heavy fire. Iranian media reported Israeli strikes on Tehran and other cities, killing at least nine people—including a nuclear scientist. Locals described the attacks as among the heaviest since the fighting began.

In southern Israel, at least four people were killed and 22 injured in Beersheba as a result of Iranian rocket fire before the ceasefire took effect.
