Bahrain on the Move
Being in the media, one develops a sense for the rhythm of a nation — and right now, Bahrain is beating with unmistakable energy. The Kingdom feels alive, evolving rapidly into a stronger and more confident economy under focused leadership and a clear national vision. Just as we were stepping out of the excitement of the Asian Games, the momentum continued seamlessly. The World Endurance Championship, BAPCO Energy 8 Hours and BRAVE 100th edition added to an extraordinary season of activity. The Manama Dialogue and the Gateway Gulf Investment Forum attracted delegations from around the world. At the same time, the Arab Cybersecurity Conference and the Royal Bahrain Concours added to an already vibrant national calendar.
Amid these milestones came another exciting development — the launch of the new Bahrain–Qatar ferry service. This long-awaited link between Saadah Marina in Bahrain and Al Ruwais Port in Qatar, with a travel time of just over an hour, marks the first international passenger sea route between two Gulf nations. For many expatriates and residents alike, it is not just another travel update — it is a moment of joy, nostalgia, and renewed connection.
Having travelled on ferries in places like Macau, Malaysia, and the Maldives, I have found that each journey carries its own charm. Yet one of my most memorable experiences was in Turkey, where live entertainment, friendly chatter, and the joy of the open sea made the voyage unforgettable. That experience taught me that ferry services can be far more than mere transportation — they can be journeys filled with character, culture, and a sense of community spirit.
Bahrain’s new ferry service holds a similar promise. It can serve not only as a convenient link complementing air travel to Qatar but also as a leisure route for families and weekend travellers seeking a short and affordable getaway. The addition of thoughtful features — a small duty-free outlet, a scenic deck for sunset photos, and a children’s corner with light entertainment — could transform it into a truly memorable experience.
This ferry is more than just a vessel carrying passengers, vehicles, and cargo between two ports — it is a bridge of friendship, a voyage of joy, and a symbol of regional unity. It reflects Bahrain’s growing prominence as a hub of connectivity and innovation, guided by the visionary leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
And this is just the beginning. In the near future, we may see more such ferries setting sail from Bahrain to other GCC destinations — turning the blue waters of the Gulf into dynamic routes of travel, trade, and togetherness. The sea, once seen as a boundary, may soon become the most beautiful bridge connecting nations and people across the region.
