Bahrain, Kuwait Sign Deal to Finance Electricity Transmission Development
Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy, met with Waleed Shamlān Al Bahar, Acting Director General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), during his visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The visit marked the signing of a loan agreement between the Government of Bahrain and the Kuwait Fund to finance the 220 and 66 kV electricity transmission network development project, aimed at strengthening the Kingdom’s power infrastructure.
The meeting was attended by Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, President of the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA).
Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa underscored the deep-rooted relations between Bahrain and Kuwait, which continue to flourish under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Highness Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, Amir of Kuwait.
He reaffirmed the commitment of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to advancing comprehensive development and modernising national infrastructure in line with Bahrain’s urban and economic growth objectives.
The Minister praised the Kuwait Fund’s ongoing support in financing projects that foster economic and social development, highlighting Bahrain’s keenness to enhance cooperation with the Fund and expand partnerships that serve mutual interests and strengthen fraternal ties between both nations.
For his part, Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed noted that the agreement represents a significant step in Bahrain’s efforts to modernise and expand its electricity system. He said the Electricity Transmission Network Development Project is a strategic initiative designed to improve network efficiency, reliability, and capacity to meet increasing electricity demand and support national development goals.
He also expressed appreciation for the Kuwait Fund’s continued contributions to Bahrain’s development journey, affirming that such collaboration reflects the enduring brotherly relations and shared vision between Bahrain and Kuwait.
