Dar Kulaib powered to a hard-earned, four-set victory over Muharraq last night in their Top Six clash of the 2023/2024 Isa bin Rashid Bahrain Volleyball League.

The defending champions had a good start but Muharraq tried valiantly to put on a challenge.

Dar Kulaib were too good, however, and they closed out the contest with a 3-1 (25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 25-17) final score line, strengthening their hold on one of the top two seeds in the ensuing Golden Square semi-finals.

The victors were spearheaded by their top players Mohammed Yaqoob, Ali Mohammed, Hassan Alaiwi, Ali Habib, Hassan Al Warqa, Abdulla Mohammed, Mahmoud Abdulwahed and Brazilian import Caio Oliveira.

For Muharraq, they relied on the play of Mahmood Alafia, Majeed Mohammed, Sayed Ali Mohammed, Hussain Ehsan, Abbas Al Khabbaz, Ahmed Issa and newly signed Russian professional Victor Sysoev.

With the result, Dar Kulaib claimed their seventh win in eight matches as they remained in first place on the Top Six standings.

Muharraq are trying to stay in contention for the final four but suffered their fifth loss in eight tries.

The Top Six is being played in a double round-robin to determine the cast for the Golden Square semi-finals.

Action continues tonight with Nabih Saleh facing Al Najma. Matches in this stage continue until the end of the month, after which the Golden Square will be held.
