Emirati teams shine in AWST
Emirati clubs dominated in Volleyball, Basketball and Fencing as the Third Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST 2016) hosted by Sharjah, UAE enters its final two days.
In the Volleyball competition, Sharjah Ladies Club were 3-1 winners against the Bahrain’s Al Muharraq Club, while UAE’s Al Wasl Club defeated the Palestinian Ebdaa Club 3-0. In basketball, UAE’s Bani Yas Club won 66-59 against Bahrain’s Al Najma Club after a tough match and Egypt’s Sporting Club clinched an 80-60 victory over the Algerian Olympic team.
In the group fencing Foil competition, Bani Yas Club secured the gold medal after defeating Al Bahrain Club 45-20, while in the Épée category, Egyptian Sporting Club won the gold after beating Algeria’s Mawlodiya Club 45-28 in the final match.
The group archery saw Egypt, UAE, Morocco and Bahrain all advance to the semi-finals and in individual archery UAE’s Nora Al Wadhi, Iraq’s, Rand Saeed and Egyptian sisters, Nada and Aya Mamdouh qualified for the semi-finals.
