Bahrain’s senior men’s basketball team are stepping up preparations for the 4th Gulf Games in Doha, focusing firmly on making a strong start to the competition.

The squad will face a demanding schedule of three games in three days in the group phase, all to be played at the Al Gharafah Sports Hall.

Bahrain begins its campaign against Saudi Arabia on 15 May at 4pm, before quickly turning attention to the United Arab Emirates the following day at the same time. They round off the preliminary stage against hosts Qatar on 17 May at 6pm. The results will determine semi-final seeding: the top-ranked team faces the fourth-ranked team, and the second-ranked team meets the third-ranked team on 19 May. The winners will advance to the gold medal match, while the losers compete for bronze a day later.

In preparation for the tournament, the Bahrain Basketball Association has named an initial 15-player squad, who have already begun training under head coach Georgios Vovoras and his coaching staff. The group includes Ahmed Salman, Ahmed Alderazi, Mohammed Buallay, Ali Jaber, Ahmed Bindayneh, Mahmood Abbas Isa, Mohammed Juma’a, Ali Hussain, Emran Ashkanani, Nader Ali, Hassan Ghareeb, Mohammed Ghazi, Mohammed Sami, Nader Shaker and Hassan Fahad.
