Muharraq Seek Swift Response Against Sitra
Defending champions look to bounce back from first defeat of the season
The Nasser Bin Hamad Premier League continues this evening as defending champions Muharraq take on Sitra at Bahrain National Stadium at 7pm, with Muharraq eager to respond after suffering their first defeat of the 2025–26 season.
Muharraq saw a long unbeaten run brought to an end on Friday, edged 1-0 by league leaders Al Khaldiya at the Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Stadium. Joel Beya’s early strike proved decisive, leaving Muharraq third in the standings on 20 points, four behind the pace-setters but still firmly in the title hunt.
Despite that setback, Muharraq remain one of the division’s most formidable sides. They boast the league’s best defensive record, having conceded just three goals in nine matches, and have collected six wins and two draws so far. 3 points tonight would see them climb to second, moving to within one point of Al Khaldiya.
Sitra, meanwhile, enter the contest sitting eighth, enjoying a steady if unspectacular campaign built on resilience. With five draws from nine matches — the most in the league — they have proven difficult to beat, though victories have been harder to come by. Their latest outing ended in a 1-1 draw with Al Shabab, with Mohammed Al Akram scoring the equaliser after the break.
That result typifies Sitra’s season: organised, competitive, but lacking a cutting edge in the final third. They have scored and conceded nine goals, leaving them clear of the relegation zone but some distance from the league’s leading pack.
Tonight’s fixture represents a stern test for Sitra, who have shown greater consistency in familiar surroundings, but face a Muharraq side motivated to make an immediate statement after Friday’s disappointment.
With the title race already taking shape, Muharraq know there is little margin for error, while Sitra will be aiming to frustrate another heavyweight and add to their growing collection of hard-earned points.
