AWST extends deadline for Arab clubs to register

Organisers of the Third 2016 Arab Women’s Sports Tournament (AWST) have extended the deadline for Arab clubs wishing to participate in the tournament until next Thursday.

The tournament is organised by the Women Sports Department of the Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC), and would be taking place from February 2 to 12 in Sharjah, UAE.

Clubs can register via post to the SLC’s address (PO Box 5588 Sharjah, United Arab Emirates) or through the tournament’s official website (www.awst.ae).  

The organising committee said they will announce the clubs and countries participating once the registration period is over.

Organisers expect a record number of participants in AWST 2016 following the success of the first two editions, in which the tournament’s first edition in 2012, featured 12 countries and 42 clubs and increased to 13 countries and 54 clubs for the second edition.

The number of players and administrators also increased from 582 to 900 for the second edition and sports events increased from five to seven for the second edition.

This year eight sports will be included - basketball, volleyball, table tennis, fencing, archery, shooting, athletics and the new entry – show jumping.
