For the first time in its history, Bahrain has topped the overall standings at the Asian Para-Taekwondo (Poomsae) Championship, held recently in Kuching, Malaysia. The historic achievement came after the Bahraini team secured nine medals—five gold, three silver, and one bronze—placing them ahead of the seven other participating nations.

The team also claimed first place in the women’s category with a haul of three gold, two silver, and one bronze medal, and took second place in the men’s category with two gold and one silver medal. The gold medalists included Rouba Al-Amri (wheelchair), Rawana Al-Saad and Nasser Hubeil (Down syndrome), Nassar Al-Muraissi (wheelchair), and Zeina Al-Balushi (short stature).

In recognition of their stellar performance, coach Fajr Al-Banali was awarded the Best Female Coach in Asia, while Rawana Al-Saad received the Best Female Player award. Rouba Al-Amri also achieved the highest score of the tournament, underscoring the team’s exceptional technical and competitive prowess.

Coach Fajr Al-Banali stated that the success was a testament to the development of para-taekwondo in the Kingdom, and the support given to athletes of determination by the leadership.
