Ángel Di María has announced he will leave Benfica at the end of the season, following the club’s failure to reclaim the Portuguese league title.
Final League Bow Ends in Frustration
Benfica were held 1-1 by Braga on Saturday, finishing two points behind champions Sporting — a result that sealed Di María’s final league appearance for the club.
Emotional Farewell
The 37-year-old posted an emotional message on Instagram: “It was my last championship match with this shirt and I'm proud to have worn it again.”
One Last Shot at Silverware
Benfica still have the Portuguese Cup final against Sporting on May 25, and Di María says he will give everything to go out on a high. His participation in the Club World Cup, however, remains uncertain.
