Erling Haaland’s struggles at Wembley went on as the Manchester City striker declined to take a first-half penalty in the FA Cup final — a decision that proved costly in City’s shock 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

A Chance Spurned

With City trailing to Eberechi Eze’s early strike, they won a penalty after Bernardo Silva was tripped in the box. But instead of stepping up, Haaland handed the ball to Omar Marmoush, who saw his effort brilliantly saved by Palace keeper Dean Henderson.

Guardiola Left Surprised

Manager Pep Guardiola admitted he was caught off guard by the decision, saying, “I thought he would want to take it… They decided Omar was ready.” Marmoush’s hesitation before the kick only added pressure, and the miss left City chasing the game.

Rooney Questions Mentality

Wayne Rooney suggested the moment might have been too much for Haaland, comparing him to Messi and Ronaldo: “They would never give that ball away. That’s what sets them apart.” Despite scoring 30 goals this season, Haaland remains scoreless in six Wembley appearances — and has now missed three of his last seven penalties.
