Arab Open University opens American Corner

The Arab Open University of Bahrain celebrated the inauguration ceremony of the American Corner at the University campus, which aims to enhance cultural knowledge exchange and entrepreneurship.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr. Diana Al-Jahromi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Higher Education Council, His Excellency Mr. Steven Bondy, Ambassador of the US in Bahrain, as well as a number of HEC affiliates, academics, diplomats and representatives of the business sector in the Kingdom.

In the beginning of the ceremony, Dr. Al-Jahromi delivered a speech commending the qualitative partnerships conducted by the institutions of Higher Education in Bahrain to prepare a generation of youth qualified for the challenges of this age, by providing them with the necessary skills, and by empowering them with the capacities to succeed in the labour market; to ultimately contribute to Bahrain’s sustainable development.

From his side, Ambassador Bondy expressed his gratitude for the inauguration of The American Corner and stressed the importance of cooperation between the Embassy of the United States of America and Open Arab University in various fields.

“The American Corner is a symbol of the partnership between the United States of America and the Kingdom of Bahrain and will contribute to fostering cultural exchange between the two friend countries, and to providing new opportunities for Bahraini youth to learn and develop,” Ambassador Bondy said.

Prof. Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al-Zakari, AOU President delivered a speech thanking the Higher Education Council for its support to the plans and programmes of Arab Open University in the Kingdom, commending all efforts that had contributed to the establishment of the American Corner, particularly the US Embassy.

Dr. Ghurmallah bin Abdullah Al-Ghamdi, AOU President, delivered a speech explaining the idea of establishing The American Corner and the efforts to realse the first idea and to make its emergence into light.
