The Bahrain Tender Board has announced an upcoming tender to procure 500 smart traffic cameras for the General Directorate of Traffic at the Ministry of Interior.

The tender specification outlines the delivery of 300 cameras in the first year, followed by 100 cameras in the second and third years, respectively.

The installation of these smart cameras aims to establish a comprehensive system for monitoring traffic flow, redirecting vehicle movement, assisting stranded vehicles causing traffic disruptions, and deploying traffic patrols and tow trucks to ensure smooth traffic flow.

Additionally, the cameras will play a crucial role in enforcing traffic violations on public roads throughout the Kingdom of Bahrain. The deadline for submission of bids for the tender is set for April 24th, with the opening of bids scheduled for the following day.

The Bahrain Tender Board invited interested parties who possess the necessary expertise to purchase the tender documents electronically through the Council’s electronic tendering system. Furthermore, the Bahrain Tender Board emphasised that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will receive a 10% preference in the financial evaluation stage.

To qualify for this preference, SMEs must include a valid certificate of classification issued by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce along with their submitted bids. The introduction of advanced smart traffic cameras is expected to significantly enhance the traffic management capabilities of the General Directorate of Traffic.

These cameras will provide real-time monitoring and data collection, enabling authorities to promptly respond to traffic incidents, improve road safety, and enforce traffic regulations effectively.
