Menzies Aviation, a leading global service partner to airports and airlines, has officially inaugurated its advanced domestic cargo terminal at Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR). Developed in partnership with Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), the cutting-edge facility spans 245,000 square feet and is designed to streamline cargo operations while incorporating sustainable infrastructure.

The new terminal is a significant addition to Menzies Aviation’s global cargo network and is built to handle a diverse range of airfreight commodities efficiently. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, specialized storage solutions, and eco-friendly design elements, the facility aims to enhance cargo handling operations while meeting future demands in the fast-growing Indian air cargo sector.

Strategically located on a seven-acre site within BLR Airport, the terminal has been designed with scalability in mind. It can handle up to 360,000 tonnes of cargo at peak capacity, with 80 percent of its total built-up area dedicated to core operational activities. Additionally, the facility provides space for up to 42 trucks to operate simultaneously and features eight floor-level weighted scales to ensure precise cargo weight and volume verification.

Aligning with Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) standards, the cargo terminal sets a benchmark for sustainable cargo operations. It incorporates skylighting for natural illumination, advanced ventilation systems for optimal air quality, water conservation measures, energy-efficient technologies, and waste management solutions.

Charles Wyley, Executive Vice President for the Middle East, Africa & Asia at Menzies Aviation, emphasized the importance of the new terminal in supporting India's expanding air cargo sector. “Our greenfield domestic cargo terminal at Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru represents a major leap forward in our commitment to delivering efficient, reliable, and future-ready logistics solutions. With India's air cargo market expected to reach 5.8 million tonnes by 2029, this facility is designed to meet both current and future demand as the industry continues to evolve.”

Satyaki Raghunath, Chief Operating Officer of BIAL, highlighted the terminal’s contribution to sustainable aviation growth. “This new domestic cargo terminal underscores our commitment to sustainable development. By integrating eco-friendly practices with advanced technology, we have created a facility that not only meets the rising demand for domestic cargo but also sets new benchmarks for operational efficiency and environmental responsibility. This terminal will play a key role in our vision of establishing BLR Airport as a premier air cargo hub, driving economic growth and unlocking new opportunities.”

The launch of the Menzies Aviation domestic cargo terminal marks a significant milestone in India’s air cargo industry, reinforcing Bengaluru’s position as a critical logistics hub in the region.
