Government to Conduct In-Depth Study on Traffic Challenges in Bahrain

The Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Traffic Council, H.E. General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, presided over a meeting of the council today. The session was attended by the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, the Minister of Works, the Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, the Minister of Education, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Legislative Authority Affairs, and the Director-General of the General Directorate of Traffic.
At the outset, the Minister welcomed the members, emphasizing the need for continued efforts to enhance road safety for all users. He highlighted that addressing traffic congestion requires a comprehensive study of public policies related to vehicle numbers, safety standards, and durability specifications.
During the meeting, the Traffic Council reviewed key topics on its agenda, particularly successful initiatives aimed at mitigating traffic congestion. Discussions focused on adopting legislation to regulate vehicle numbers, licenses, and traffic laws, as well as leveraging technology for traffic management and road network improvements. Additionally, the council explored ways to activate and promote public transportation.
As part of the deliberations, the council decided to establish a dedicated team to conduct a comprehensive study of Bahrain’s traffic conditions and review effective global practices. Plans were also set in motion to develop a detailed strategy for expanding entry and exit points and road networks leading to Bahrain International Circuit and the Bahrain International Exhibition & Convention Centre. Furthermore, the council approved the restructuring of the council’s technical committee while maintaining its existing mandate.
The Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications provided an overview of ongoing efforts to enhance the public transport sector, including increasing the number of buses and stations to improve accessibility.
Concluding the meeting, the Minister of Interior expressed his gratitude to the members for their continuous efforts in ensuring road safety. He underscored the importance of fieldwork and maintaining round-the-clock readiness to monitor and regulate traffic flow efficiently.
