Bahrain King prioritises safeguarding marine resources

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has issued directives to establish measures aimed at the development and safeguarding of Bahrain's marine resources, in addition to ensuring continued fish farming to meet the local market’s needs.

These measures include the formulation of procedures to protect marine resources and recognise their significance as essential resources for citizens.

HM, the King, was speaking as he received His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, HM the King’s Personal Representative; His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, HM the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs; H.E. Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Royal Court Minister; General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, H.E. Minister of Interior; and H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Bin Daina, Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs.

His Majesty directed HH Shaikh Abdullah to set up measures for the development and protection of marine resources. HM King Hamad praised the efforts of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE), in cooperation with various ministries and government entities, for the development of marine resources through a series of plans and programmes.

He emphasised Bahrain’s interest in improving food security by developing marine resources, ensuring sustainability, and protecting its resources. His Majesty underscored Bahrain’s focus on the development and sustainability of marine resources, considering them a national asset and one of the main elements of enhancing food security in the kingdom.

HH Shaikh Abdullah expressed his appreciation for HM the King’s continuous support of the SCE. He also commended the Ministry of Interior’s efforts, particularly those of the Coast Guard, in protecting marine resources and enforcing legal measures against violations.
