More Than 10 EU Nations Ready to Join Lebanon Security Mission

Brussels : More than 10 European Union countries are willing to provide personnel and resources for a planned mission to advise and train Lebanese security forces, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said.
The proposed military and civilian mission aims to strengthen Lebanon’s security institutions, allowing the Lebanese army to focus on the disarmament of Hezbollah, a key objective of Western governments.
The EU plans to launch the mission in mid-October, with personnel expected to begin deploying by late 2026 or early 2027.
The initiative comes as the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, UNIFIL, is set to end in December 2026. The EU has said its mission is not intended to replace UNIFIL but to help the Lebanese state extend security control across the country.
France has also pushed for wider international support for Lebanon's security forces as efforts continue to stabilise the country and maintain a ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel.
