AACO, Gulf Air hold forum on mobile technology in biz
In October 2015, the Arab Air Carriers’ Organisation (AACO) held the Business Technology Forum, which was hosted by Gulf Air in Manama.
Held under the theme of ‘Empowerment through Mobile Technology’ the forum gathered over 80 delegates from AACO member airlines and technology providers and was opened by the airline’s A/ Chief Executive Officer, Maher Salman Al Musallam, who welcomed the participants and media attendees.
Speaking on the importance of technology in aviation Al Musallam said, “We are gathering technology experts to discuss how mobile technology can empower airlines, airports and passengers delivering positive impact on the passenger travel experience and the aviation industry as a whole. This is an event of great importance for airlines and members of the aviation industry and I look forward to seeing much positive discussion as a result.”
The forum highlighted the increasing number of customers fulfilling their travel requirements through smart, mobile devices.
As mobile passenger services are an increasingly visible, major differentiator between airlines, the technology providers and consultants in this year’s forum provided member airlines with a comprehensive overview of the current use and future prospects of mobile technology from a business development perspective, giving insights on the capabilities and possible integration of this technology in support of commercial goals.
Gulf Air Director Information Technology Dr. Jassim Haji, said, “Today, mobile devices play a major role in our daily lives. It is astounding to think now that today’s average mobile has more processing power than PCs in 1960s, and that over half of personal internet time is spent through mobile devices. There is no escape from this overwhelming trend of mobile usage and the resulting awareness that passenger journeys can be made easier and more personalised by offering mobile services.”
The forum included a half- day of open sessions where a number of technology providers and consultants, in addition to IATA, presented trends and views on the use of mobile technology in travel.
Additionally, closed sessions were held between each provider and AACO member airlines in which, providers highlighted their specific mobile device products/ solutions.
AACO Secretary General, Abdul Wahab Teffaha thanked Gulf Air for inviting AACO Business Technology Forum to Bahrain and for their hospitality and great organization.
This has helped in ensuring that the forum met its objective of bringing more awareness to airlines on the current and future uses of mobile technology to provide an even better service to the customers, he added.
