The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization has announced the launch of nominations for the 13th edition of the Unesco King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa Prize for the Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Education.

This year’s edition focuses on using technology to enable comprehensive educational systems to face crises.

The deadline for the submission of nominations is on 18 February 2022.

Established in 2005, the Prize rewards individuals and organisations that are implementing outstanding projects and promoting the creative use of technologies to enhance learning, teaching and overall educational performance in the digital age.

An international jury selects the best projects annually.

Each prize winner receives a cash prize, a medal and a diploma during a special ceremony held on the occasion.

Education Minister Dr Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi underlined the great importance of the prestigious global prize, launched by HM the King, and adopted by Unesco, in recognising initiatives aimed at promoting quality education for all social segments by using ICT, in line with the world body’s goals and the policies of the Kingdom in the field of digital learning.

Dr Al Nuaimi pointed out that the increasing number of participants from different countries proves its importance in serving humanity through education.

The minister explained that this year’s edition rewards projects that guarantee the continuity of education and maintain quality, especially in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which has caused the disruption of education around the world.

Unesco called on individuals, institutions and NGOs to contact their countries’ national commissions and international non-governmental organisations maintaining official relations with the world body to inquire about the nomination procedures and fill in the nomination forms in English and French.
