KG Baburajan, the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award 2021 winner, said he was humbled and honoured to receive the prestigious award.

A Civil Engineer by profession, Baburajn said he was lucky enough to play a part in almost all of the developments in the Kingdom.

These include King Fahad Causeway, the Bahrain Financial Harbour, World Trade Centre, BAPCO Modernization, and New Airport Passenger Terminal Buildings, to name a few.

Baburajan also thanked the engineering community for providing him with this opportunity "without discrimination based on nationality, religion or any social status."

Recalling his childhood, Baburajan said he was born in a village called Kuttoor in Thiruvalla, in the south Indian state of Kerala where there was no electricity or water supply.

"Those days, I had to depend on Kerosene Lamp and well water."

"My Grandfather was an agriculturist and every day used to feed almost 100 to 150 workers. I used to mingle with them, hear their stories and hardships and try to help them by influencing my grandfather."

"This had influenced me a lot, as a young boy, to empathise with the poor and underprivileged."

He also urged all: It's "our duty to help those in need whether it is financially, morally, socially or any form of help."
