Owners removed 611 abandoned vehicles

A campaign to clear abandoned and dilapidated cars in the Hamala area resulted in removing 611 vehicles, said Northern Municipality.

The vehicles were removed by their owners in response to notifications served by the municipality.

Municipal officials oversaw the removal of 42 vehicles, whose owners failed to respond to notifications.

The Director-General of the Northern Region Municipality Lamia Al-Fadala called on everyone to cooperate with the municipality in preserving the environment.

“Leaving cars on the streets causes many environmental hazards as well as confuses road users.

It also distorts the aesthetics and compromises road safety,” said Al Fadala. She also stressed that the municipality would intensify its campaign to remove dilapidated vehicles from the residential areas. Public cleanliness law10/2019 imposes fines of up to BD300 for violating norms related to cleanliness.

The law imposes higher penalties of up to BD1,000 for transporting garbage or dangerous substances without a license.
