Leadership congratulated over Bahrain team’s soccer triumph

Bahrain has clinched the West Asian Football Championship after beating Iraq in the final match.  His Majesty’s Representative for Youth and Sports Affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) Chairman His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa congratulated HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on the achievement. He also extended congratulations to His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier.

He paid tribute to HM the King, hailing royal support to the sport movement which bore fruit and enabled national teams to shine and achieve landmark successes and achievements. HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa congratulated the national team players who shined as ambassadors of Bahraini sports and reflected the Kingdom’s football strides. He commended the players for their dedication and determination, which enabled them to triumph and clinch the West Asian Football Championship, hailing the administrative and technical staff.

Council of Representatives Speaker Fawziya Zainal congratulated His Majesty over the soccer victory. She sent a cable of congratulations to HM the King, hailing the unwavering royal support and directives to youth and sports in the Kingdom of Bahrain. She sent two cables of congratulations to His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier. She also extended a similar cable of congratulations on this occasion to His Highness Shaikh Nasser.

She also congratulated the Bahrain Football Association (BFA) chairman and board members, technical and administrative staff and players on clinching the championship and honouring the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Bahrainis won the title after defeating hosts Iraq 1-0 in an exciting final played at a packed Karbala International Stadium. Isa Ali Mousa scored the winning goal. The Bahraini team reached the final of the tournament after leading Group B with seven points from a win over Jordan and another against Kuwait and a draw with Saudi Arabia.

The tournament was launched on July 30 with the participation of nine teams divided into two groups, the first included Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Lebanon, while the second included Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.
