Back when professional digital artist Khawla AlHassan was in high school, she learned a very important lesson about friendship and her passion.

She had a hard time finding somebody among her peers who shares the same connection and passion for art as she has, from her surroundings where art was not considered as a serious career path. This has taught her the lesson that being alone in a path with your passion is better than walking beside everybody without your passion.

When she applied to study fine arts at the same year, the program got cancelled and she ended up with a diploma in a major that didn’t appeal to her.

In order to recover and rise up again, Khawla went the only way to get back on track with a field related to arts as she joined BA course in Mass Communications and Digital media in the University of Bahrain.

“I chose this time to walk without my friends and follow my instincts even if it's going to cost me 8 years of studying. It was one of the best decisions that I have ever made. I enjoyed every part of this long journey,” she said.

Khawla had earned her experience in creating and managing websites for 8 years locally and globally for her own business ‘Imaginary Art’. After joining UoB, she managed several projects including earning the roles of designer for the National Day exhibition for HM Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Head of Layers exhibition for digital medial projects and being awarded for Best Adobe Director Project, Web Project and Ideal Digital Media student.

In 2015, Khawla created her own business called AlHasan Design where it specializes in Architectural modeling, 3D Animation, Video Production, Video Games production for smart phones and Graphic Design.

Khawla’s passion for Design

Talking about her passion for design, she said, “It's a common language. Some people might not understand numbers, equations, or words. But design is the language of everybody. Every single person can interact and analyze the colors, lines, images, videos differently.”

As she treaded further, Khawla also entered her newfound passion for teaching and went to become a Research and Teaching Assistant. Earning the attention of her professors as a student, she was given an opportunity to teach in their classes.

Khawla has plans for a Master’s degree as well as plans to teach visual effects and cinematic composting in the future. “We need this major in the gulf region especially Bahrain,” she commented.
