BSB offers students a life-changing experience

Manama

trip to Vietnam to gain volunteering experience became a life changer for a group of students from British School of Bahrain (BSB).

The BSB students went to the Southeast Asian country for a 16-days trip organised by the school to “help the needy”.

However, one of the nine students who participated in the programme, Laura Ashi said they had a complete change of perspective following the trip.

“We learnt how grateful we should be for what we have. From now on, we won’t take anything for granted,” she said. The students raised over BD1000 back in Bahrain and used it to build shelters, purchase medicines and buy food for the needy in Vietnam.

“We had to organise fund-raising events and engage in different activities, which helped us build a variety of skills,” said Panos Panagiotou.

Kevin Orme said seeing poverty first hand is something he would never forget. “You do see poverty on TV and you have a mental picture of what it looks like, but when you actually see it, it is more heartbreaking,” he said.

“We saw life from a totally different perspective, something we were not even aware of up until that point, “ said Kinda Abu Taha.

Marc Zacharia said poverty seems non-existent in Bahrain compared to Vietnam.

The other students who participated in the trip were Ghazi Al Aradi, Dania Naeem, Floris van Manen and Dzianis Pasichny.
