NIS Wins Inter-School Title at ISB Chess Championship

The second edition of the ISB Platinum Jubilee Chess Championship concluded successfully in Bahrain, attracting strong participation from players across the Kingdom and reinforcing its status as one of the country’s leading chess competitions.

Organised by The Indian School Bahrain (ISB) in collaboration with Arjun’s Chess Academy as part of the school’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the tournament brought together young talents and experienced players in a competitive setting that highlighted strategic depth and sporting discipline.

In the Inter-School Under-14 Team Category, featuring CBSE schools across Bahrain, The New Indian School (NIS) secured the championship title. The winning team comprised Noel Abraham Punnoose, Sriram Palaniappan, Jairam Kannappan, and Dhanashree Mohanraj. The Bahrain Indian School (BIS) finished as runners-up with Arnav Singh Dewan, Trishan Moorkoth, Dhruv Trivedi, and Gunjan Pal representing the team.

Chess Championship

The Open Category saw a closely contested battle, with Rudra Desai emerging as overall champion and claiming the USD 100 top prize. Dimitrios Dispinis finished second, earning USD 50, while ISB’s Krishna Babu Lakshmanan took third place with USD 25. Aaryan Anil Jai Prabhakaran and Aditya Venkataraman placed fourth and fifth respectively.

Uma Eswari Meenakshinathan of ISB was named Overall Girls Champion in the Open section. Age-category winners included Naga Mokshith Mamidi (Under-8), Pradhyumn Manipuzha (Under-10), Likilesh Amargandhi (Under-12), and Aarav Pandya of ISB (Under-14).

The championship was inaugurated by ISB Hon. Chairman Adv. Binu Mannil Varughese, who made the ceremonial first move in a game against Hon. Vice Chairman and Sports Member Dr. Mohammed Faizal. Matches were conducted under FIDE Rapid Chess Rules, supervised by Chief Arbitrator Arjun Kakkadath and his officiating team.
