Bahraini citizens in Iraq are safe

Manama : All Bahraini citizens in Iraq are safe and no injuries were reported among them during the powerful earthquake that hit Iraq last night, the Bahraini Embassy in Iraq reassures.

The embassy tweeted on its official Twitter page that it’s communicating with all Bahraini citizens in Iraq and that “no injuries were reported among them”.

It was also confirmed that “the embassy’s building and staff members were not affected by the earthquake”.

The embassy called upon citizens to contact it on 07801970008 and 07814256980 for any assistance, adding, “The embassy is continuously communicating with Bahraini citizens in Iraq to be reassured about their conditions."

More than 200 people were killed and more than 2, 500 injured after a powerful 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck the border region between Iran and Iraq last night.

The death toll is rising according to local news agencies there.

The turmoil was felt in several GCC states including Kuwait and Bahrain. However, no injuries were reported here.

It’s noteworthy that hundreds of Bahrainis are now in Iraq to perform an annual religious pilgrimage (Arba’een) in Karbala city. More than 13 million Shia Muslims gathered in Karbala this year to perform the religious visit.
