Closure of garden leaves residents in lurch

Manama : The Water Garden, one of the main public parks in Salmaniya area which was shut for renovations last March, is not opened yet, leaving the local residents completely in the lurch.

The public park used to serve as a prominent community space for a lot of residents and children in the area. With the closure of the park, local people have no space for recreation, especially for women and children.

“With houses being so cramped in the Capital, the park served as the only space for residents in the neighbourhood to take the children out in the open to play but with the main public garden being shut for months there is no community space for our kids anymore,” a resident said.

“There is no space for us to go for our evening walks anymore. We can’t let our kids go out and play on the streets. We have observed that the park has just been left abandoned with no renovations happening,” said another resident adding: “We urge the officials to re-open the park at least until the renovation are resumed so that there is at least a space for the community.”

DT News did contact the officials of the Capital Municipal Council and is awaiting the response of the officials on the matter concerning the residents in the Capital.

DT News had previously reported on how Water Garden would be given a major facelift as announced by  Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry in March, with Minister Essam Khalaf stating that the garden has been temporarily shut down till works are completed.
