Manama : Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Essam Khalaf visited Muharraq Ring Road project located between the Hidd Interchange and the entrance to Amwaj and Galali. The project is now 35 per cent complete.

The present expansion phase is 3km long. It commenced in February 2017 and will continue until October. The cost of the project is BD1,870,330.

The project aims at providing safe and easy access to Hidd, Dair, Samaheej, Galali and housing projects in Amwaj, Dilmunia and Diyyar Al Muharraq. It also provides an extension to the Muharraq Fourth Bridge that links Busiateen and Diyyar Al Muharraq.

Khalaf explained that roads from the entrance of Amwaj to Hidd will be expanded from two lanes at each direction to three lanes.  Work also includes revamping Hidd Interchange and constructing a new access point to its East, which leads to the investment and commercial complexes in the area. In addition to that, the existing traffic signal will be adjusted, a new lighting system will be implemented, and the storm water drainage network will be improved, besides protecting the existing services and installing pedestrian barriers.

Upcoming works include construction of concrete barriers, after which the paving of the third lane will commence. The Hidd Avenue Interchange will be revamped by constructing a new entrance to Industrial Area.
