Riyadh: The Saudi-led coalition officially accused Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi militia of executing a drone attack on a major electricity distribution station in the holy city of Medina.

The alleged attack triggered immediate and widespread condemnation across the Muslim world.

Coalition spokesman Major General Turki al-Maliki stated that evidence confirmed Houthi involvement in striking the Taibah facility, taking one transformer out of service.

Authorities highlighted that the targeted power station directly supplies electricity to the sacred Prophet's Mosque.

A senior Houthi official rejected the allegations, denying any targeting of Islamic holy sites. The dispute unfolded alongside escalating military operations across Yemen, where government forces carried out major retaliatory strikes against Houthi targets in Sanaa, Saada, and Taiz.

The incident provoked fierce diplomatic backlash from regional governments and religious institutions. Turkey, Qatar, the League of Arab States, and Al-Azhar strongly denounced the attack, labeling it an unacceptable transgression against Islamic values and Saudi sovereignty.
