Drunk driving: Conviction of Finnish national upheld
Manama : The High Criminal Appeals Court has upheld the conviction of a Finnish national of GCC origin who was arrested for drunk driving. The woman was earlier handed down one month jail and a fine of BD1000. The accused will be deported once she completes her jail term.According to court files, a car was spotted in Jufair by police officers, and the accused was occupying it.
As police approached the vehicle, the accused jumped from the passenger seat to the driver’s and drove the car to a sandy area. Officers went to the woman and found her drunk.
“I wasn’t driving the car, I was just a passenger. But once police came behind the car, I moved to the driver seat,” she told prosecutors.
The accused was already found guilty in two other cases for assaulting police officers and parking in the middle of the road while she was under the influence of alcohol on two occasions.
