Verdict against society's secretary-general appealed
Manama
Bahrain Advocate General Wael Bu Allay confirmed that the Public Prosecution reviewed the verdict handed down to the secretary general of one of Bahrain’s political societies at the Higher Criminal Court.
The Advocate General confirmed that the Public Prosecution has appealed the decision to acquit the defendant of the charge relating to promoting political change using illegal forceful means and threats. In addition, the Public Prosecution has appealed against the length of the sentences in relation to the guilty verdicts, as the Public Prosecution does not feel the sentences reflect the seriousness of the offences. These charges include inciting non-compliance with the law and publicly inciting hatred, an act that had disturbed public peace.
The Advocate General added that the Public Prosecution has provided an explanatory note outlining the reasons behind its appeal, and that the Appeals Court will consider the appeal in accordance with due processes.
