Maid throws newborn from rooftop, survives
Manama : A domestic worker was arrested in the Northern Governorate for attempting to kill her newborn baby by throwing it from the rooftop, the authorities informed yesterday.
According to sources, the baby girl survived the fall, which occurred in Karranah village, and the African housemaid was taken to Budaiya police station by her sponsor.
Family and Child Affairs Acting Chief Prosecutor Moza Al Na’aar explained in a statement yesterday that the case was referred to the prosecution by Budaiya police station and that the defendant and another domestic worker who helped her in the murder attempt were interrogated.
“The African housemaid threw the baby from the rooftop of her sponsor’s house straight after she delivered it. Another housemaid helped her in the process. The baby was taken to Salmaniya Medical Complex after she was rescued,” Al Na’aar said.
The prosecutor added that teams from the prosecution inspected the crime scene.
A coroner was also assigned to examine the baby, who is in a stable condition, according to a reliable source. The source added that the sponsor wasn’t aware of the worker’s pregnancy and that she feared the consequences.
The prosecution ordered to detain both the housemaids pending investigations and while witnesses’ testimonies are heard.
