Kids athletics festival set

Manama : An athletics festival for children will be held on December 26 at the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation Hall. HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of West Asian Athletics Federation, President of Bahrain Athletics Association, gave instructions to organise the event titled 'Kids Athletics'.

The festival will be held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Faisal bin Khalid Al Khalifa and in collaboration with the Kingdom's governorates, Royal Charity Organization, Al Sanabel Orphan Care Society and Bahrain Cancer Society, marking the Kingdom’s National Day celebration and HM the King's Accession to the Throne.

His Highness asserted that the athletic festival for children comes within the framework of Bahrain Athletics Association's keenness to celebrate this annual national occasion by organizing programmes and events which will serve the "Mother of all sports" and strengthen its position on all levels. His Highness pointed out that the establishment of this festival will coincide with the National Day celebration which will enhance the image of the festival and showcase it well.

HH Shaikh Khalid said this festival is organized in coordination with the five governorates in the Kingdom and NGOs, which goes in line with the International Association of Athletics Federations directives (IAAF), to spread the sport to young people, and support the IAAF goals with competitions that will develop this sport, discover talents in the Kingdom and build bridges with various institutions in the Kingdom.


HH Shaikh Khalid said the festival will be overseen by an organizing committee composed of several talents from the Bahrain Athletics Association, who aim to spread the culture of this sport to children in the groups from eight to 10 years and discover promising talents. The festival will include mini competitions of throwing, jumping and sprinting, presented in a fun and competitive manner, which will contribute to develop the potential of the children.

He said that the large and unlimited cooperation from the governorates and participating parties will have a significant impact on the success of the festival, which will in an honourable manner achieve the goal of spreading this sport to children and discover talents.
