Man’s sentence upheld in fraud case

ManamaThe High Criminal Appeals Court has upheld the six-month imprisonment of a man who was convicted in connection with fraud.

The defendant is said to have processed his payments through a credit card as an offline transaction, where he was purchasing items without having any balance in his account.

The accused reportedly bought valuable devices, including mobile phones from different shops. He was settling all his purchase transactions in this manner, following which he would then sell the devices.

According to court files, the defendant was stuck in huge debts to several financial institutions, as he reportedly used some of the money to pay them.

The defendant told prosecutors that an employee serving in a car rental shop taught him this trick, as he was owing money to them and there was no credit in his card.

Thus, he decided to continue using it, as the transactions were completed successfully, although his balance was nil.
