The Meteorological Department of Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication called upon the public to be cautious as Shamal winds, locally known as Al Barreh, are expected to hit the Kingdom today.
According to the Met Department, temperature would slightly fall in the Kingdom due to moderate to strong (occasionally) winds. The Met Department also said the Kingdom experienced light to moderate easterly winds, which lead to formation of mist around dawn due to high humidity.
The Shamal winds are caused due to seasonal low pressure over central and southern parts of Pakistan and extend to the Arabian Gulf, usually during the second week of June, until mid July, the weatherman said. The area is affected mainly because of the lack of mountains in the eastern parts of the Arabian peninsula.
Last year, Al Barreh winds came on June 4, reducing visibility to less than 400 meters sometimes, affecting the movement of land, marine, and aviation transportation in Bahrain and other GCC countries.
