Focus on privacy and data protection

Professor Marike Patrani Paulsson, Secretary General of the Council for International Dispute Resolution of the Kingdom of Bahrain, took part in a panel discussion at the 4th IBA India Litigation and ADR Symposium, held at the Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi, under the title: “Privacy, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act”. She joined a distinguished group of speakers in a session titled: “Privacy, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act: Where is freedom of expression on the one hand and the regulation of social media on the other?”
The Symposium brought together eminent senior judges, policymakers, legal practitioners and technology experts to explore the rapidly developing relationship between personal data protection, digital governance and fundamental rights.
Programme
It also included a professional programme addressing current developments in digital law and human rights, allowing participants to discuss key challenges and opportunities and to present proposals that contribute to advancing this field regionally and internationally.
During the session, Professor Paulsson highlighted the growing importance of principled, rules-based regulatory approaches capable of responding to technological realities, and reviewed Bahrain’s efforts to strengthen its position as a trusted legal centre for resolving complex disputes in an increasingly digital world.
